A Celebration of Mi’kmaw Art, Craft and Culture

KNOWING – The start of our artistic journey.

We will be supporting the next generation of Mi’kmaw artists through workshops and engagement from established artists. Interactive workshops will be delivered live using webinar technology. They will also be recorded and posted online so they can be shared with prospective artists across Canada.

CREATING – The creative process, from mentors to learners.

We have selected four aspiring young artists who will each receive a total bursary of $4,500, divided into monthly payments during their participation in the program. Each young artist will be paired with a mentor. We intend to document the mentoring and subsequent creative process on film as part of the project (and these films will be creations in themselves). The mentoring process is expected to take place in-person and/or via web conference. Over the course of the project, we will document the journey of these young artists and share their experiences and resulting artistic creations.

SHARING – Sharing our creations for others to enjoy.

Students’ creations will be shared and distributed by a number of means and channels:

  • Online Content. All content, workshops, webinars, and resulting films will be shared through multiple online channels, including social channels and YouTube.
  • Online Exhibits. Artistic works resulting from this project will be featured in dedicated virtual exhibits to be developed as part of the project outcomes.
  • Physical Exhibits. Membertou Heritage Park will provide permanent exhibit space for artistic works resulting from this project. Petroglyphs Gift Shop will provide services to assist in distribution and sales. Membertou Trade & Convention Centre will host an exhibit focused on both the mentors and their prospects.
